Eating Raw Has Never Been So Tasty or Convenient

What if there was a snack that was not only mouthwatering good, but actually extremely beneficial for your overall health? What if you could throw it in your bag and take it with you anywhere? And it was even raw and organic. Well, here are some scrumptious snacks you may never leave home without.

When life gets busy as it often does and you need a quick and convenient snack, your first thought may be to reach for items containing unhealthy ingredients such as sugar-filled protein and energy bars, trail mixes with candies or chocolate, or bagged chips.

All the while, you may be shunning nuts and seeds from your diet, believing the fat content could lead to weight gain.

In reality, many nuts make for a near-ideal snack given their healthy fat, vitamin, antioxidant and fiber content. If you’ve avoided them out of concern for your weight, I strongly urge you to reconsider, and here’s why…

Nuts: Nature’s Original Snack Food

Why do I believe that many nuts make an excellent snack food?

Nuts are an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. They have been known to boost your heart and overall health. In fact, a recent study revealed that nut eaters gained several health benefits compared to non-nut eaters, including lower weight and systolic blood pressure, decreased waist circumference and a lower risk of diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

But eating just any nut won’t satisfy these benefits. It’s best to choose raw, organic nuts and avoid those that are irradiated, pasteurized or coated in sugar.

Generally speaking, each type of nut will offer a slightly different mix of nutrients for your health. Some great options are macadamia nuts, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds. In fact, a study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry even revealed that a 1-ounce serving of almonds has a similar amount of total polyphenols as a cup of steamed broccoli or green tea.

One of the healthiest aspects of almonds is their skins, as they are rich in antioxidants including phenols, flavonoids and phenolic acids, which are typically associated with vegetables and fruits.

Instead of grabbing the first sugar-laden treat you see when you need a quick snack, consider packing raw, organic almonds as a healthful and filling option.

Even When Labeled Raw, Most Almonds in the U.S. Are Pasteurized

The problem with most almonds in North America is pasteurization. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) implemented a mandatory pasteurization program for almonds in 2007. If you purchase almonds in North America, they will most likely have gone through one of the following pasteurization methods:

  • Oil roasting, dry roasting or blanching
  • Steam processing
  • Propylene Oxide (PPO) treatment — a highly toxic flammable chemical compound once used as a racing fuel before it was prohibited for safety reasons

What’s alarming is that pasteurized almonds sold in the U.S. can still be labeled “raw” even though they’ve been subjected to one of the damaging treatment processes listed above.

The Almond Board of California states they have conducted independent nutritional lab analyses that show pasteurization does not degrade the nutritional value of almonds. Sound familiar? This is exactly what was falsely claimed for pasteurized milk. However, we know that raw milk and pasteurized milk are two very different foods from a health standpoint, and it stands to reason that raw and pasteurized almonds are too.

For years, I’ve been consuming raw organic almonds — whenever I could find some up to my standards. It occurred to me that I should offer these simply delicious, unpasteurized almonds to consumers — a truly healthy, beneficial snack.

Not only are these almonds the best of the best in my book, they also have a special ingredient that makes them stand out even more: probiotics.

Probiotics — A Gift to Your Gut and Immune System

From the very first breath you take, you're exposed to probiotics.

How so?

On the way through the birth canal during a normal delivery, a newborn gets dosed with bacteria from their mother. This event starts colonization in the infant's gastrointestinal (GI) tract of "good" bacteria. Compelling new research now shows many caesarean-section infants have less-than-optimal health after birth. This is most likely because they are not exposed to the mother's healthy bacteria in the birth canal which would then serve to populate its own GI tract.

As you mature, you're faced with many threats to the beneficial bacteria in your gut... from chlorinated drinking water... to overly processed foods.

The "good" bacteria in your gastrointestinal system can only provide you with optimum health if the proper balance of different types of bacteria is maintained in your gut.*

This is where probiotics can have a profound effect... not just on your GI health, but on your overall health as well.* Keep in mind, 80 percent of your immune system actually lives in your gut.

Probiotic formulas are available with many different types of bacterial strains... with the most common being Lactobacillus acidophilus.

In general, the major benefits of high-quality probiotics are to...

  • Aid you in digesting food, particularly hard-to-digest foods and foods to which some individuals are more sensitive*
  • Enhance the synthesis of B vitamins and improve calcium absorption*
  • Help you keep a healthy balance of intestinal microflora*
  • (In women) Promote vaginal health*
  • Support your immune system*

…and more. That’s why I’m so excited to introduce my probiotic-enhanced Organic Almonds.

Try my trail mix as an alternative to ones you might find on many grocery store shelves, which are chock-full of additives and potentially unhealthy ingredients.

All the ingredients in my Superfood Energy Mix are raw for maximum nutrition, since certain nutrients start to degrade at higher temperatures. There are also no preservatives such as sulfur dioxide, “natural” or artificial flavors, salt, sugar, or additives of any kind.

Each batch of trail mix is handcrafted in a certified organic facility and is free of many common allergens. No dairy, eggs, soy, corn, peanuts, gluten, or bioengineered ingredients are permitted in the manufacturing facility.

My Superfood Energy Mix is a great, healthy snack for an afternoon pick-me-up, or for any time of day you need a fulfilling and energizing treat.
