Woman Applying Lotion
On average, women use 12 different personal care products every day.

A study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that’s dedicated to protecting human health and the environment, found that women use an average of 12 personal care products containing 168 different ingredients every day.

Men aren’t too far behind... For them, personal care products have evolved beyond the basics of deodorants and razors to skin cleansers and multiple skincare products that promise to turn back the hands of time.

What if you didn’t have to buy a different product for every personal care need? And what if you could use just one product for all these grooming needs, and health and household cleanup tasks?

  • Cleansing your face and hands without drying them out
  • Shaving while nourishing your skin
  • Showering and bathing
  • Shampooing and conditioning your hair
  • Brushing your teeth
  • Cleaning your shower, toilet and bathroom sink
  • Washing your dishes and pots and pans
  • Cleaning your countertops, cabinets and appliances
  • Mopping tile or vinyl floors
  • Laundering your clothes
  • Shampooing your pet
  • Soaking tired, sore feet
  • Cleaning fresh fruits and vegetables

I think you get the idea... One product that could be used to clean practically everything.

Introducing Our USDA Certified Organic Castile Wash – a Multi-Purpose Liquid Soap That Cleans Just About Everything Under the Sun

Products

Most likely you’ve heard about castile soap, but do you really know what it is?

Incredibly versatile, our Organic Castile Wash is a natural, biodegradable and chemical-free concentrated liquid soap that you can use for personal care, laundry, washing dishes and for general cleaning around your home. It’s so gentle, you can even use it to shampoo the family pet.

Botanical-based and scientifically designed, our Organic Castile Wash is made with USDA Certified Organic oils, aloe and a pure essential oil for a natural scent:

  • Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice
  • This nutritional plant soothes and promotes youthful-looking skin with its more than 130 beneficial compounds, including vitamins, minerals, anthraquinones, phytosterols, polysaccharides and amino acids. Plus, it replenishes and protects your skin’s moisture barrier and helps freshen breath when used as toothpaste.

  • Organic Coconut Oil
  • In liquid form, this oil’s unique chemical properties makes it a gentle wood cleaner and polishing agent, stain remover and overall outstanding household cleaner. It even erases crayon from walls! On the personal care side, its high concentration of beneficial fats moisturizes skin and hair, leaving them silky clean.

  • Organic Sunflower Seed Oil
  • Long used by American Indian tribes to condition skin and hair with its abundant vitamin E and other youth-promoting antioxidant nutrients, it’s great for soothing and moisturizing dry skin. Plus, it won’t clog your pores.

  • Organic Sesame Seed Oil
  • Sesame seed oil helps protect skin from abuse of the elements. It’s also low on the comedogenic scale, so it won’t clog your pores and may be helpful for problem skin.

  • Organic Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Derived from the peppermint plant, this 100% pure, organic essential oil invigorates and energizes, and is useful both for personal use and for use as a cleaning agent around your house.

Let’s take a look at why you’d want to replace your current personal care and grooming products with Organic Castile Wash...

Why Use Our Organic Castile Wash Instead of Popular Personal Care Products?

Personal Care Products
It can be difficult to know what's in popular personal care products.

The tremendous leap in skincare and personal product usage is taking its toll on health. Here are just two of EWG’s recent discoveries:

  • 4.3 million women are exposed each day to ingredients that are known or probable reproductive and developmental toxins, linked to impaired fertility or developmental harm in babies.
  • One out of five adults are potentially exposed every day to all of the top seven carcinogens found in personal care products: hydroquinone, ethylene dioxide, 1,4-dioxane, formaldehyde, nitrosamines, PAHs and acrylamide.

Based on these statistics, many men and women are unknowingly choosing products that contain potentially harmful ingredients. In their defense, all ingredients don’t need to be listed on product labels by law.

And many unsuspecting consumers don’t realize that what goes on their skin ends up in their bloodstream and organs.

Some of the Worst Ingredients to Avoid in Personal Care Products

Woman Washing Her Face
What's hiding in your personal care products?

Manufacturers use more than 82,000 different ingredients today to formulate shampoos and conditioners, shave creams, shower gels and other personal care products.

And one in eight of these ingredients are industrial chemicals and include carcinogens, pesticides, hormone disruptors and reproductive toxins.

Although the list of ingredients to avoid is long, the EWG considers these ingredients to be among the worst:

  • Fragrance (includes phthalates) – Synthetic fragrance can cause toxic effects to organ systems, allergies and irritation of the skin, eyes and lungs
  • Parabens (propylparaben, methylparaben) – Can lead to endocrine disruption, allergies, toxic effects to the immune and reproductive systems, cellular and biochemical changes
  • Poloxamer 184 – Can cause toxic effects to organ systems and the ability to accumulate in your body
  • BHT – Linked to cancer and causes toxic effects to organ systems, allergies, endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity, and irritation of the skin, eyes and lungs
  • Salicylic Acid – Causes enhanced skin absorption and irritation of the skin, eyes and lungs
  • Propylene Glycol – Causes enhanced skin absorption, toxic effects of organ systems, allergies, and irritation of the skin, eyes and lungs
  • Phenoxyethanol – Can cause toxic effects to organ systems, allergies, and irritation of the skin, eyes and lungs
  • Isobutane – Can lead to organ system toxicity, irritates skin, eyes and lungs, and can promote allergies

When you use our Organic Castile Wash for your personal grooming needs, you don’t need to worry about any of these harsh and potentially harmful ingredients.

What You Apply to Your Skin Isn’t Your Only Concern... What About Your Indoor Air Quality?

Family Playing Indoors
Are you doing all you can to protect the quality of your indoor air?

Many people are surprised to learn that levels of certain air pollutants can be 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors.

The average American spends about 90% of his or her time indoors, and certain groups, like infants and young children, older adults and those with respiratory or cardiovascular disease are at particular risk for health issues from breathing polluted indoor air.

Pets are also at greater risk of negative health effects from breathing polluted indoor air because of their smaller size.

One of the biggest contributors to indoor air pollution is due to the rise in use of personal care, household cleaners, laundry products and air fresheners containing synthetic and potentially hazardous ingredients.

For the most part, consumers want quick, fragrant solutions for their household dirt and grime, and that has led to the use of more and more chemicals in a myriad of different products to clean your home.

Today more than 80,000 chemicals are used in products and most of them have not been tested for safety. Luckily for the consumer, the EWG provides detailed, accurate information about products that manufacturers won’t or can’t provide.

Researchers Find Weekly Use of Chemical Cleaners Comparable to Smoking 20 Cigarettes a Day

Woman Cleaning the Floor
If you wouldn't smoke cigarettes, why use chemical cleaners? They’re just as bad for your airways and lungs.

Studies confirm that cleaning products can have a profound effect on health – even if you use them only once a week.

A 6,200-participant study from the University of Bergen in Norway showed that using cleaning solutions only once a week for 20 years damaged lung tissue as badly as smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 10 to 12 years.

Researchers concluded that inhaling the small particles from cleaning agents intended for cleaning floors can irritate and damage the mucus membranes lining your airways and lungs over time.

Many household products also release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as they evaporate and can turn into fine particulate matter. This contributes to air pollution both inside and outside your home.

Levels of VOCs are typically about seven times higher indoors than outdoors – those from consumer products may actually emit as many VOCs as do cars in U.S. cities.

So where do indoor VOCs come from? Researchers have discovered cleaning products and synthetic fragrances are major sources.

To minimize these types of damaging VOCs in your home, avoid products that list “fragrance” on their labels unless the ingredient is listed as Organic. This one word can include as many as 2,000 different VOCs!

Synthetic fragrances can trigger headaches and migraines, as well as adverse nervous system effects.

Watch out especially for lemon and pine scents. If they are not coming from pure essential oils – and the label will state that – they are most likely synthetic fragrances containing high levels of VOCs.

A recent study showed detergents and disinfectants may be especially harmful to infants and children. Exposure to chemical cleaning products in early childhood is linked to an increased risk of obesity.

How is that? Researchers examined the gut flora of more than 750 infants between the ages of 3 and 4 months. Comparing data collected later at age 1 and 3 years, the child’s gut microbiota changed, depending on what types of cleaning products were used in the home.

Children from homes where chemical-free products were used had fewer changes in their gut bacteria and lower BMI scores, indicating a healthier, more normal body weight. Those children exposed to disinfectants had less healthy gut bacteria and higher BMI scores.

What Else Is Hiding in Your Cleaning Products?

Recently the EWG reviewed a total of 94 popular household cleaning products, including so-called “green” products. As many as 62 of the 94 received scores of “D” or worse for toxic effects. An additional 28 scored only a “C.”

There are many potentially hazardous ingredients in cleaning products. Check and see if any of these are listed on the labels of products in your home right now, including so-called “green” products:

  • Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives – This known human carcinogen can be generated by formaldehyde-releasing preservatives added to make the formula antibacterial and to extend shelf life. (EWG found formaldehyde in popular “green” and other grocery store cleaning products)
  • Methylisothiazolinone and Benzisothiazolinone – Synthetic preservatives found in some “green” cleaners that are rated “D” and “C”, respectively, by EWG for evidence of acute aquatic toxicity and skin irritation and damage.
  • Polysorbate-20 – Another ingredient found in popular “green” cleaners that are rated “D” by EWG for evidence of cancer, developmental and reproductive effects, endocrine effects and damage to DNA.
  • Quaternary ammonium compounds, such as benzalkonium chloride and Alkyl C12-16 Dimethylbenzyl Ammonium Chloride (“quats”) – Scored “F” by EWG for general system/organ effects, respiratory effects and reproductive toxicity in animals.
  • Ethanolamine – Rated “F” by EWG for evidence of skin irritation, allergies, respiratory effects, general systemic and organ effects, a high level of concern for severe skin burns and eye damage, central nervous system depression and high chronic toxicity to aquatic life.
  • Nonylphenol ethoxylate – Banned abroad and in California in cleaning products after 2012, this breaks down to nonylphenol, which can disrupt hormones and is toxic to aquatic life.
  • Diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (DEGBE), or methoxydiglycol – Found in some heavy duty household cleaners, this chemical has been banned in the E.U. for its damaging effects on fertility. It can be readily absorbed through the skin or can be inhaled.
  • Diethanolamine (DEA) and Triethanolamine (TEA) – These are sudsing agents that can react with undisclosed preservatives or contaminants to form carcinogenic nitrosamines that easily pass through your skin.
  • 1,4-Dioxane –Another suspected carcinogen that is found in many name-brand cleaners, especially those made with ethoxylated alcohols.
  • Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) – Mimics estrogen and disrupts hormones to interfere in the body’s natural chemical messaging systems. May increase risk of birth defects and cancers.

Even everyday chlorine bleach and ammonia can be hazardous. Chlorine bleach creates toxic, potentially carcinogenic and irritating gases that can cause respiratory effects such as wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath. Ammonia and chlorine can react with other chemicals to form dangerous gases.

How to Use Our Certified Organic Castile Wash for Your Personal Care and Cleaning Needs

Old Couple Cleaning the Table
Use Organic Castile Wash mixed with water to keep your countertops clean and streak-free.

Cleaning your home regularly is essential for clearing out toxins like flame-retardant chemicals and phthalates that accumulate in dust, along with bacteria and fungi.

And for many, a clean and decluttered home brings with it a feeling of great satisfaction and peace, but if you must wear rubber gloves and endure harsh, potentially hazardous chemicals to achieve it, you may be doing more harm than good.

The same goes for your personal grooming. Do you really need to use harsh and potentially harmful products to have a clean, youthful-looking body?

The answer is no.

Our Organic Castile Wash provides all you need for showering and bathing and your personal care, as well as keeping your house fresh and clean.

You can mix it with water, other essential oils and natural substances in your kitchen for certain tasks. Here are suggested ways to use our concentrated Organic Castile Wash:

Family Doing the Laundry
Use concentrated Organic Castile Wash in place of laundry detergent
  • For a luscious body wash, squeeze a small amount of concentrate onto palm of hand, washcloth or bath sponge, lather, massage and rinse.
  • For a convenient hand soap, use in a foaming hand soap dispenser. It can be diluted with up to 3 parts water to 1 part soap.
  • For a foamy shave cream, squeeze a small amount onto palm of hand, lather and apply to skin.
  • As a general household cleaner, add 1⁄4 cup of concentrate to a 32 oz. spray bottle, then fill remainder with distilled water. Add a few drops of any of our Organic Essential Oils if desired, such as Lemon or Tea Tree.
  • Use as a dish soap for hand-washing dishes, including pots and pans.
  • As a laundry soap, add 1⁄4 cup concentrate per load in place of detergent.
  • For tough cleaning jobs like tubs and showers, mix a small amount of concentrate with baking soda to create an effective scrubbing paste.

Always shake Organic Castile Wash well before measuring or using.

Frequently Asked Questions
  1. A: We don’t recommend using any castile wash on color-treated hair, as it may strip the color from hair follicles.

  2. A: Castile soap is a base, pH-speaking, so if you mix it with an acid like lemon juice or vinegar, you can end up with a curdled solution that can leave behind a film. However, when using our Organic Castile Wash as a shampoo, after rinsing, you can follow up with an acidic rinse of lemon juice or diluted apple cider vinegar.

Because our natural peppermint-scented Organic Castile Wash is concentrated, we recommend mixing it with distilled water for general cleaning. If you have hard water with an abundance of natural minerals, avoid mixing Castile Wash with your tap water, as it may leave a white film residue when used to clean surfaces.
